Components in the cars’ anti-lock braking systems can generate more electrical current than its fuses can handle. That can lead to a short circuit. In the combustion-friendly environment of a car, short circuits can lead to fires. The problem can develop even when the car is parked.
Some of the cars included in this recall were recalled over the same issue in February. But Hyundai says it is aware of two fires in vehicles that were fixed as part of that recall campaign.
Dealers will fix the problem by installing a new fuse system.
